The whole order of the Rosary in plain words, with every prayer written out and the mysteries for each day of the week. Fifteen to twenty minutes, five decades, one mystery at a time.
That is the entire structure. Everything else is a matter of pace, posture and how long you sit with each mystery.
A rosary has a crucifix, one bead, three beads, then five groups of ten beads separated by single beads. The single bead before each group of ten is where the Our Father is prayed; the ten are the Hail Marys. The crucifix carries the Creed, the first bead the first Our Father, and the three beads the three Hail Marys.
The beads are a counter, not a requirement. Fingers work. So does a screen.
A decade is ten Hail Marys with one mystery held in mind. Announce the mystery, pray an Our Father, pray the ten Hail Marys, then a Glory Be and the Fatima Prayer. Move to the next bead and the next mystery.
The meditation is the point. While the mouth says the Hail Mary, the mind stays on the scene: the angel arriving in Nazareth, the scourging, the empty tomb. When attention wanders, return to the scene rather than starting over.
| Day | Mysteries | Set |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | The Annunciation to the Finding in the Temple | Joyful |
| Tuesday | The Agony in the Garden to the Crucifixion | Sorrowful |
| Wednesday | The Resurrection to the Coronation of Mary | Glorious |
| Thursday | The Baptism in the Jordan to the Institution of the Eucharist | Luminous |
| Friday | The Agony in the Garden to the Crucifixion | Sorrowful |
| Saturday | The Annunciation to the Finding in the Temple | Joyful |
| Sunday | The Resurrection to the Coronation of Mary | Glorious |
The day only decides which set is customary. You may pray any set on any day, and people do: the Sorrowful on a hard morning, the Glorious at a funeral.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy. Amen.
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy; our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.
O God, whose Only Begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation; grant, we beseech Thee, that by meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Five decades run fifteen to twenty minutes at a walking pace. One decade is about three minutes.
No. A decade prayed slowly is worth more than five rushed. One decade a day is a real practice, not a compromise.
Nothing is broken. Pick up at the mystery you remember, or begin the decade again.
Yes. Both are counters. The prayer is the same either way.
No. Anyone may pray it. If the Marian prayers are not yours yet, read the Gospel passage behind each mystery and stay with it; that is the ground the Rosary stands on.
